Pedata RV Targets Maine's Anti-RV Legislation
(Vocus) May 21, 2009 -- Maine State Legislature is attempting to pass a bill that would make parking a recreational vehicle (http://www.pedatarvcenter.com/) in a commercial parking facility overnight illegal. According to the bill, commercial parking is defined as "a parking structure or area open to members of the public for purposes of parking vehicles while patronizing one more commercial establishments. While the bill excludes mobile home parks and recreational vehicle parks, it would include places like Wal-Mart which has always welcomed RVers. Similar bills were introduced unsuccessfully in Billings MT, Laughlin and Reno NV.
Public parking lots have served as more than a place to spend the night. They have allowed tired drivers convenient places to pull off the road and rest. According to SafeNY.com, driving tired is as dangerous as driving drunk with similar symptoms such as impaired judgment and reaction times. The new bill would make it illegal to pull into casinos or truck stops to rest overnight and would force RVers to find a suitable campground that may be miles out of their way, full or not equipped for larger vehicles.
"Now is the time for RV owners to get involved," says Clint Ethington of Pedata RV (http://www.pedatarvcetner.com/). "We made a difference in Montana and Nevada and we can make a difference in Maine. Our money is valuable to Maine's economy and I doubt they would want to lose our business."
